Well, let me rephrase this question: Do you think personal branding and corporate/product branding are two separate paths or just two faces of the same coin? Do you really have to choose between the two or you can intelligently incorporate both of them for optimal results? Here are some proven tips to help you get the best of both worlds.

Grasp the Social Media Equation: Intelligent personal banding = Boosting corporate Branding

Social media is social by nature. That’s why; when you shine as a friendly, active and engaged social networker, you instantly arouse your loyal fans’ curiosity about your product/brand. In other words, you need to focus on who you are and occasionally mention your product(s) in a subtle, non-intrusive way. For example, if you typically send 5 tweets per day, make sure all of them are informative and/or fun and mention your business brand in only a couple of them.

"corporate branding vs personal branding"

Use the Social Media Corporate Branding Features to The Fullest

Facebook Pages is a great place to really focus on your corporate branding and thanks to Facebook new privacy settings, you can now choose what to share with your business page fans and what to keep for your personal friends.

Also, no one could ever blame you if you bragged about your brand and business expertise on a strictly professional social site like LinkedIn. However, it wouldn’t be a smart move to do the same on a Facebook profile!

The Garious Facebook page and the LinkedIn Profile of Aaron Eden (the brains behind Garious) are good examples of the point I am making here.

Create a Personal Branding Blog and Another Corporate Branding Blog

I guess I don’t need to explain why incorporating blogging into building your social media influence is out of the question. The new tip I am sharing here is that it is best if you have a personal blog alongside side business blog(s). Why? Because if you don’t, you might at some point mix business with pleasure and this could be confusing or unwanted by your prospects.

If you checked the Who is Aaron? page in Aaron Eden’s personal blog, you will see that he is sharing who he is with the world.

On the other hand, the About Garious page in this blog, is mainly focusing on Garious as a brand. This separation is quite useful and it’s clearly reflected on the nature of each blog content. Aaron’s personal blog is his chance to share his passions and hobbies, while Garious blog delivers social media related posts.

Needless to say, each blog has different subscribers with different interests and each of them find exactly what they are looking for.

In conclusion, it has become crystal clear that social media sites are constantly adding new features for supporting both personal and corporate branding. The trick is to figure out where to do what. Whatever your approach may be, please make sure to balance your personal and corporate branding strategies on social media in order to reap the rewards each of them has to offer.  Happy branding!
